Service.

Most law firm websites refer to practices as “transactions” and “litigation,” and we have long experience doing both.  We prefer to think of our assignments not with those traditional labels, but by referring to what our clients need us to do when they come to us—make business deals happen and solve business problems.

Building your company.

We counsel entrepreneurs and business owners to make informed and wise choices throughout a company's life cycle. We get to know our clients so we understand and share their vision and can help them to focus and execute on what matters most. We are counselors first, attorneys second.

We live, work, and play in the local and regional startup ecosystems, so we are able to support founders by making useful introductions and facilitating networking opportunities. We also have contributed to the growth of Geekdom, the San Antonio Entrepreneur Center, San Antonio Startup Week, San Antonio Entrepreneurship Week, 3DS, Startup Weekend San Antonio, SA New Tech, and regularly host startup-focused meetups.

Our attorneys have extensive experience in internet and technology law, but we help businesses in all industry sectors structure and negotiate technology-focused commercial issues, including software development and licensing across a variety of delivery models, e-commerce and PCI compliance, open source compliance, social media regulations, online defamation and fraud, data privacy and security, as well as the technology aspects of mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures, and other complex corporate transactions.

We embody the entrepreneurial principles of agility and forward-thinking.  So our legal packages are holistic in nature. We provide ongoing consultation with business health assessments and checkups, and we prescribe the needed legal services for both startups and existing businesses. We work with companies to build and price packages that maximize value, including offering a legal-as-a-service pricing model that is billed through a monthly subscription.

Solving business problems.

We have litigated cases across the country involving the financial services, technology, real estate, energy, transportation, franchising, and retail industries. These matters have included jury trials, arbitrations, and appeals in numerous state and federal courts.

We believe the client is best served when counsel first seeks to understand not just the facts of the case, but what the case means for the client and how our creative analysis and strategy fits with the client’s business priorities. So we take the time to quickly understand the opportunity, the risk, and the business, legal and financial impact of choosing one strategy over another.

We have managed diverse dockets of cases for clients in conjunction with in-house counsel or in the capacity of an outside general counsel. These assignments include the management or coordination of national and regional litigation, from repeating disputes over products or services to matters involving issues of particular sensitivity to the client.

We regularly work with clients to create litigation practices and procedures designed to streamline case management and reporting. We embrace the use of technology and technology partners to facilitate the coordination of cases among counsel and the client and the use of document management solutions that streamline discovery and ensure consistency across cases. We also design protocols to select cases and forums that maximize the client’s leverage in seeking positive, precedent setting results.

Pricing.

When clients talk about legal fees, they often talk about the lack of predictability and the unwillingness of lawyers to embrace ideas and technologies that create better service and reduce the client’s overall spend. They see ineffective staffing models that put lawyers in charge of tasks that others can do as well or better and for less. Smaller clients talk about the barriers they face under the traditional hourly rate model.

We hear those concerns. That is why we create packages of legal services that provide clients the work they need—and only the work they need—on financial terms that work best for the client and for the specific engagement. We are committed to aligning our financial interests with those of the client, whether that involves a flat fee, a subscription model, incentive-based arrangements, or the traditional fee-for-services structure.
